The coffee grinding is one brewing process that ground the whole coffee beans after the process coffee roasting. Both Manually and electrically the grinder are available. When grinding coffee, the coffee beans will be small size grinds. The size of coffee grinds can vary as course, medium, fine, extra fine, turkish (powder like flour), up to methods of the coffee grinding, grinder machine and grinding duration. Actually, more fine coffee grinds will have more surface area to contact the heated water. Sure that will affect the extraction rate and produce coffee taste. So we have to choose right coffee grinding which will give us opimal size coffee grinds to brew a best cup of coffee.

There are 2 common different type: Blade Grinder (Mill grinder) or Burr Grinder
Getting to know the coffee grinding
Blade grinder (Mill grinder): The device which consist a metal sharp blade to chop or cut the roasted coffee beans into grounds. You can control the size of coffee grinds by the time that grinder run, For sure you have to take a long time to grind if we want the fine coffee grounds. This blade grinder is a kind of basic general home grinder and cheap device advantage. (Maybe this is suitable for a new coffee drinker to try lol.) But anyway bad points, coffee grounds from the blade grinders vary in sizes and the long time we grind for fine coffee grinds, more heat come out from the blade that can change and affect the coffee taste. Anyway It also produce much coffee dust that can clog up the filter (next coffee brewing process).

Burr Grinde: The device which squeezing and crushing the roasted coffee beans between a moving metal grinding wheel and a non-moving surface into grounds. The grind size is controlled by the position of the burr. So you can have the fine, consistant coffee grounds from this grinder. Wow, perfect! There are two different types.

Wheel Burr – With flat-plate burr design. The wheel spin speed is very fast and this make much more noisy and messy as well, Anyway it is not much expensive.

Conical Burr- With steel burrs and high gear ratio design. The burr spin speed rotate slower than the wheel model, so makes quieter, less messy as well. It’s not likely to clog so you can have oily or flavored coffees , I found this one is the best grinder, For sure it ‘s much more expensive than. Would you like to pay for it?
